From the immensely popular blogger behind Little House Living comes a motivational homemaking book, inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie, featuring creative, fun ways to live your life simply and frugally—perfect for fans of Ree Drummond’s The Pioneer Woman. Shortly after getting married, Merissa Alink and her husband found themselves with nothing in their pantry but a package of spaghetti and some breadcrumbs. Their life had hit rock bottom, and it was only after a touching act of charity that they were able to get on their feet again. Inspired by this gesture of kindness as well as the beloved Little House on the Prairie books, Merissa found that a life of self-sufficiency and simplicity could be charming and blissful. She set out to live an entirely made-from-scratch life, the “Little House” way, and as a result, she slashed her household budget by nearly half—saving thousands of dollars a year. She started to write about homesteading, homemaking, and cooking from scratch, and over the next few years developed the recipes and DIY projects that would one day become part of her now beloved website, LittleHouseLiving.com. As whole foods became staples of the family diet, Merissa realized the dangers of putting overly processed ingredients not only into our bodies, but on or near them as well. In addition to countless delicious, home-cooked meals, she developed natural, easy-to-make recipes for everything from sunscreen to taco seasoning mix, lemon poppy hand scrub to furniture polish. With their simple ingredients, these recipes are allergen friendly and many are gluten-free. With over 130 practical, simple DIY recipes, gorgeous full-color photographs, and Merissa’s trademark charm in personal stories and tips, Little House Living is the epitome of heartland warmth and prairie inspiration.

Tiny HomesTiny House Design Tips Includes FREE BOOK! SHIPPING CONTAINER HOMES51 Ideas on How to Organize and Decorate Your Small Living Space Thinking about moving into a tiny home? Have you heard a lot about the tiny house movement and have been thinking that this is the right move for you? This little house movement is gaining in popularity all over the world; the idea that you can get rid of all the unnecessary things in your life and instead focus on what really matters, taking care of the environment. While living in a small house may seem like a great idea, there are many individuals who feel that a shipping container home is just too small for them. How are they going to get the bare necessities to fit, much less everything else that they may like to have on hand? This guidebook is here to help you get started so you can enjoy living in a tiny home without having to worry so much about where everything will fit. This guidebook is going to help you learn everything that you need to know to make your compact house feel like it is much bigger than it looks on the outside. We will take a look through every room of the house, starting with the bedroom and not stopping until we reach all of the room in these cozy little cabins. You will be surprised how you can use your cupboard space more wisely or add some decorations to the wall in order to brighten up the room and make it seem more open than before. Each room in your shipping container house will get the attention it deserves. You will learn some of the best tips that are needed to ensure that a little can go a long way in a tiny home. Rather than just leaving everything up to chance and hoping it is all going to fit inside this small space, you can go into your new home with the tools that are needed to get the whole thing done. We also look at some alternatives that you can do in order to get more out of this house. For example, some people, especially those who live in the cold northern climates, having a shower on the outside of the house is not a smart idea while those who live further south can put up a small fence and get away with this idea. We explore both so you can find the shower situation that works for you. We will spend some time in the kitchen where there are a ton of great ideas that can ensure you still make those great tasting meals. Before ending this guidebook, the final chapter brings up some important tips that you can follow in each and every room of the house. These tips are meant to help you out in all steps of the tiny home project; from building the house with the right contractor to going with light colors in each room and learning how to create more openness in the home so it feels bigger and brighter. These may seem like simple things, such as choosing a light blue instead of a dark blue when painting, but they will make all the difference when you are short on space. Tiny house living isn't something that you should be worried about. It is a grand adventure that allows you to have a ton of freedom. You can enjoy freedom from bills, freedom from all the extra stuff, and freedom from many of the stresses that are going on in your regular life. So when you are ready to give tiny houses a try, take a look through this guidebook and see just how great living this lifestyle can be. The Wright idea "The interior space itself is the reality of the building." - Frank Lloyd Wright Widely thought to be the greatest American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was a true pioneer, both artistically and technically. At a time when reinforced concrete and steel were considered industrial building materials, Wright boldly made use of them to build private homes. His prairie house concept--that of a low, sprawling home based upon a simple L or T figure--was the driving force behind some of his most famous houses and became a model for rural architecture across America. Wright`s designs for office and public buildings were equally groundbreaking and unique. From Fallingwater to New York`s Guggenheim Museum, his works are among the most famous in the history of architecture. About the Series: Each book in TASCHEN's Basic Architecture Series features: an introduction to the life and work of the architect the major works in chronological order information about the clients, architectural preconditions as well as construction problems and resolutions a list of all the selected works and a map indicating the locations of the best and most famous buildings approximately 120 illustrations (photographs, sketches, drafts and plans)

What are the challenges architects face when designing dwelling spaces of a limited size? And what can these projects tell us about architecture – and architectural principles – in general? In BIG little house, award-winning architect Donna Kacmar introduces twenty real-life examples of small houses. Each project is under 1,000 square feet (100 square meters) in size and, brought together, the designs reveal an attitude towards materiality, light, enclosure and accommodation which is unique to minimal dwellings. While part of a trend to address growing concerns about minimising consumption and lack of affordable housing, the book demonstrates that small dwellings are not always simply the result of budget constraints but constitute a deliberate design strategy in their own right. Highly illustrated and in full-colour throughout, each example is based on interviews with the original architect and accompanied by detailed floor plans. This ground-breaking, beautifully designed text offers practical guidance to any professional architect or homeowner interested in small scale projects.

Tiny House, Large Lifestyle! Tiny homes are popping up across America, captivating people with their novel approach not only to housing, but to life. Once considered little more than a charming oddity, the tiny house movement continues to gain momentum among those who thirst for a simpler, "greener," more meaningful life in the face of society's "more is better" mindset. This book explores the philosophies behind the tiny house lifestyle, helps you determine whether it's a good fit for you, and guides you through the transition to a smaller space. For inspiration, you'll meet tiny house pioneers and hear how they built their dwellings (and their lives) in unconventional, creative and purposeful ways. They'll invite you in, show you around their cozy abodes, and share lessons they learned along the way. Inside you'll find everything you need to design a tiny home of your own: Worksheets and exercises to help you home in on your true needs, define personal goals, and develop a tiny house layout that's just right for you. Practical strategies for cutting through clutter and paring down your possessions. Guidance through the world of building codes and zoning laws. Design tricks for making the most of every square foot, including multi-function features and ways to maximize vertical space. Tours of 11 tiny houses and the unique story behind each. Tiny House Living is about distilling life down to that which you value most...freeing yourself from clutter, mortgages and home maintenance...and, in doing so, making more room in everyday life for the really important things, like relationships, passions and community. Whether you downsize to a 400-square-foot home or simply scale back the amount of stuff you have in your current home, this book shows you how to live well with less.

61 simple recipes made from ingredients most of us already have on hand (except the meats and produce) that are easily made in a tiny kitchen. I hope your family will love these recipes, as mine has, for many years to come. I spent several years living in my tiny house and I loved every minute of it. Let me tell you the story of my Tiny House... My maternal grandfather, Melvin Byers, built the tiny house, one room at a time, starting with the kitchen and one multipurpose room for him and my grandmother, Virginia, to live in when they got married. An electrician by trade, grandpa added on to the tiny house as he came upon materials left over from the construction sites of other homes and businesses that he was wiring, and as his family grew. Eventually the little house grew to 1 1/2 stories and 4 bedrooms (but only one bath). The 3 upstairs bedrooms were built in the attic space so they are very tiny and have been dubbed "the dollhouse" due to their tiny size and the tiny storage solutions he came up with, like drawers and tiny bookcases built into the walls, since not much more than a twin-sized bed will fit into the rooms. The ceilings of these bedrooms are sloped so if you aren't short like me, you can only stand upright in the center of these tiny rooms, if at all, and you will likely hit your head if you sit up in bed too fast. Grandpa moved the tiny house to dig a basement under it and then moved it back at one point, to add cellar space and room for a washer and dryer. The basement is way below standard height so most men have to duck under the floor joists to avoid hitting their heads. The stairs to the basement and the upstairs bedrooms are both very low ceilinged so most people have to walk up and down them a bit stooped or they will bang their head on the ceiling. Since I am only 4 foot 10 inches tall the ceilings never posed any problem for me but my husband, who is about 5 foot 10 inches tall and blind has hit his head more times that I could possibly count, poor guy! So, it is my height that I am referring to when I call myself "the little cook." As much as I hate to admit it, I am about as big around as I am tall. I am very happily married to a wonderful man who is both totally blind and hearing impaired and just about the best cook ever! (Thus explains why I am as big around as I am tall). Many of the recipes here are his creations or his and mine combined. Some are ones I have come across here-or-there over the years and have long since forgotten the source of. I am also the mother of three terrific children, two sons and a daughter, and I have seven beautiful grandchildren: 5 girls and two boys. I also have two very spoiled Chihuahuas. I moved out of my tiny house about two years ago and gave the house to my oldest son and his family who still live in it today...talk about crowded! I moved into a much larger house but have come to realize that my McMansion has WAY more room than I need. So much of the space is just wasted, and don't even get me started on the higher costs of utilities! So, I have decided to move once again into a tiny house, one even tinnier than the one my grandfather built since my kids are all grown and my husband and I need and use very little space to live. THIS is what is at the heart of this cookbook. I plan to use all of the proceeds from its sale to purchase my new Tiny House on wheels. Why on wheels, you ask? Because, right now I live in Florida, my parents, my oldest son and his family live in Ohio and my daughter and her family live in Missouri. My health is not good so I plan to move into a portable Tiny House and go between Ohio and Missouri during the warmer months and winter here in Florida. Hopefully this book sells. If you are reading my book, thank you so very much for contributing to my Tiny House dream. I do hope that you enjoy these recipes, as my family has, for many years to come. May they fill your Tiny House with all the smells of home. Michelle
